DescriptionSmall Maori fish hook amulet. Made of carved whalebone with two disks of abalone shell as 'eyes' at the top of the shaft.In the Pacific the fishhook was used as an ornament of important cultural significance. It would sometimes consist of a part of fishhook such as the point or shank. Other ornaments are stylised fishhooks.
