DescriptionCoffin case decoration consisting of a flat folded hand with fingers folded in towards the palm. It is made of gilded terracotta, and has the remains of asphalt (pitch) used to attach it to the case on the back.

This coffin was for a child. The Ancient Egyptians often decorated their coffin cases with a likeness of the deceased person. This decoration could include items of jewellery, inlaid eyes, or, as in this case, little hands.
