DescriptionToy squeaker with three birds. Bought at Bartholomew Fair in Smithfield, London in 1846. The birds are yellow, blue and red in colour with dark tails and dotted decoration.The fair at Smithfield dates back to the 12th century, when it was first held to celebrate the Feast of St. Bartholomew. In the 1700s Bartholomew Fair was a popular national and international event, featuring acrobats, prize-fighters, musicians and wild animals.
